WELCOME TO

MANHATTAN GENERAL SERVICE

OF

ALCOHOLICS ANONYMOUS

Alcoholics Anonymous is a fellowship of people who share their experience, strength and hope with each other that they may solve their common problem and help others to recover from alcoholism. The only requirement for membership is a desire to stop drinking. There are no dues or fees for A.A. membership; we are self- supporting through our own contributions. A.A. is not allied with any sect, denomination, politics, organization or institution; does not wish to engage in any controversy, neither endorses nor opposes any causes. Our primary purpose is to stay sober and help other alcoholics to achieve sobriety.

Manhattan General Service is part of Area 49, South Eastern New York (SENY). In SENY, we have a county service structure. The county structure includes one linguistic Hispanic district which serves all Hispanic groups in SENY. In some counties (about half) the county is divided into districts. In these counties, districts meet separately from the county meeting. In other counties (about another half) the county serves as the district. In one county, the districts hold district meetings at the county meeting. All of the counties and the linguistic Hispanic district have a District Committee Member Chair (DCMC).

4) 2024 DELEGATES QUESTIONNAIRE - SCHEDULE A SPECIAL BUSINESS MEETING NOW: The Delegate’s Questionnaire will be available in February.

A Group Service Representative’s key role is to transmit ideas and opinions as well as facts between your Group and the Fellowship beyond the Group (the District, County, and Area.  When a GSR does their service, the voices of all AAs. become a part of “the collective conscience of our whole Fellowship,”. In SENY, one of the ways the Group’s voice is heard is through the annual Delegates Questionnaire.  Our Delegate selects a handful of Agenda Items for feedback from the Groups.   This process is vital to our Delegate being able to speak on behalf of our Area, thus the participation of every group with a GSR is CRITICAL.

Schedule a special business meeting now!  In 2024, we have a short window of a month in which to answer the Delegate’s Questionnaire: The evolving list of Agenda Items can be found in the From The Delegate section of the SENY website (www.aaseny.org)

Saturday March 2, will be the Delegate’s Day of Sharing, where various individuals will present background on the Questions presented to SENY. Groups’ responses to the Questionnaire will have to be submitted on or before the Pre-Conference Assembly on Saturday, April 6, when GSRs will provide even more information to the Delegate about their Questionnaires and other Agenda Items on which the groups would like to offer their opinions to the delegate. It is suggested that a special business meeting occur after the Delegates Day of Sharing (so that the GSRs have the necessary background information) and well before the Pre-Conference Assembly.  The Delegate’s Questionnaire will be available in February.

5) STORY SOLICITATION “Do You Think You're Different?"

Deadline for submissions: April 30, 2024 https://app.smartsheet.com/b/form/5a77c27d179d4856b32eed86b01e3426

The trustees Literature Committee is seeking stories from AA members with diverse backgrounds. This is in response to the 2022 Conference Advisory Action that the trustees’ Literature Committee revise the pamphlet “Do You Think You're Different?” to update the stories to represent greater diversity.
