Both of these meetings will be available for listening only.  It is not technologically feasible to accommodate virtual participation in these meetings or the other Share-A-Day workshops / meetings.

AMERICAN SIGN LANGUAGE ( ASL ) INTERPRETATION + CLOSED CAPTIONING

Regrettably, ASL interpretation will only occur in-person due to logistics and economics.  The 11:00 AM workshop: Unity and Accessibility: There is More That Unites Us Than Divides Us is the only meeting that will be interpreted as one of our speakers is deaf.

If you or someone you know is attending and needs ASL interpretation, please contact James T. our Alternate DCMC at alt- dcmc@manhattan.aaseny.org.   We will do our best to accommodate.

We will have automatically generated closed-captioning for the Welcome and Final Meetings.

WHAT’S A SHARE-A-DAY

WHAT THE HECK IS AN AA SHARE-A-DAY ? WHO GOES TO THESE THINGS ?

Share-A-Days are opportunities to carry the message to the alcoholic who still suffers.  In Southeast New York (SENY), a Share-A-Day typically refers to a daylong or half-a-daylong event sponsored below the group level (by a District or County) centered around a broad theme.  The event is made up of a series of meetings and workshops on issues or topics within the broad theme.  Each workshop is usually just a meeting with 1-2 speakers followed by shares from the group (or sometimes question and answer sessions).  Consistent with our 8th Tradition, the speakers are not experts, simply members who have experience, strength, and hope to share on the topics.

Share-A-Days are often open events for anyone interested to attend.  Frequently, AA Share-A-Days are announced as having Al-Anon participation, which means, there are Al-Anon speakers and/or meetings within the Share-A-Day.

Depending on the size and scope of the Share-A-Days, there are typically numerous opportunities for service (not only speaking, chairing, logistics, etc.) for interested people regardless of the length of their sobriety.

Share-A-Days are also excellent opportunities to introduce an AAer to the world (and service) below the group level.

WHAT IS MANHATTAN SHARE-A-DAY ( MSAD ) ?

For the last 43 years, Manhattan County AA has sponsored a day-long Share-A-Day; traditionally, the General Service Conference theme is the broad theme of Manhattan Share-A-Day.  Thus, the Manhattan Share-A-Day theme for 2023 is AA’s Three Legacies: Our Common Solution. All of the day’s activities tie back to that broad theme.  Al-Anon, Alateen, and District 614 (the Hispanic Manhattan District) participate in Manhattan Share-A-Day.  In choosing speakers and trusted servants for the various workshops, the Manhattan Share-A-Day planning committee seeks to reflect and represent the diversity of its districts and groups.

Typically, Manhattan Share-A-Day begins with a breakfast and a welcome meeting followed by 50-minute meetings in as many meeting spaces as the meeting facility offers. In 2023, we have seven meeting spaces.  Between 10 AM and 12 PM,  there will be fourteen meetings.  This will be followed by lunch, and then fourteen additional meetings between 1 PM and 3 PM.   Lastly, there will be a closing meeting and sobriety countdown.    This year’s theme lends itself well to the Manhattan Share-A-Day structure.  Each of the first three hours will focus more closely on each of the Three Legacies: Service, Unity, Recovery, and the fourth hour will focus on themes of living life on life’s terms.

All Manhattan Share-A-Day meetings and workshops are considered open. ( click here for more information
